The Services We Provide

Functional Assessment

Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) is used to determine the function of challenging behavior. Simply put, to help us identify why an individual exhibit a particular behavior. FBAs help us to identify the most effective of treatments to reduce challenging behavior. The process includes a review of previous records, interviews with parents and caregivers, direct observation of the behavior in naturally occurring environment and a formal Functional Analysis of the challenging behavior. Assessment data is recorded, graphed and interpreted with specific treatment recommendations that are used to develop a formal Behavior Intervention Plan.

Social Skill Program

BISLA’s Social Skills Program serves school-aged children. Programming is organized in small groups, according to age and developmental abilities. Programs include a combination of evidenced-based assessment and intervention procedures that are designed to teach essential social skills such as: making friends, handling bullying, being respectful, perspective taking, sharing, turn taking, handling rejection, conversation skills, sportsmanship, and relationship building, to name a few. Participation is weekly and involves clinic and community settings, integrated with typically developing peers.  The primary goal of Social Skills programming is to promote a developmentally appropriate level of social competency and therefore marked improvements in quality of life.

Respite Care

Respite care is short-term care for a child that allows the primary caregiver a break.  Raising a child with a autism can at times be challenging and often finds caregivers solely focusing on the needs of their child. Caregivers are often forced to put their own physical and mental health aside. It is critical that caregivers take care of themselves, this will in turn make them more equipped to better care for their child. Taking a break to go to your own appointments, to socialize with a friend or spouse or just to get some rest is appropriate and recommended.  BISLA’s respite care is offered in the client home or a community setting and can be arranged as a one-time appointment or as an ongoing weekly appointment.

Home-Based ABA

BISLA’s Home-Based ABA serve children ages 18 months to 15 years old and includes a combination of evidenced-based assessment and intervention procedures used to help increase independence and age appropriate adaptive skills, as well as decrease challenging and severe behaviors. Programming includes direct intervention, with proportional supervision and caregiver training. Depending on specific recommendations, programs can vary from several to 40 hours per week, depending on the age and needs of the child. All programming is data based and data driven. In-home programming is a great way to target behavior in its natural context, as well as to promote the sustainability of the client’s growth and progress.

Parent Training

Parent training and consultation ensures that all aspects of behavioral treatment are generalized and sustained beyond ABA services. Research has shown that parent and caregiver involvement is a major contributor to client progress. Our ABA programs integrate parent and caregiver participation and training to ensure that parents and caregivers are equipped with the tools necessary to promote their child’s success in every setting. We equip parents with the ABA tools that will support them in their daily lives and prepare them to manage their child’s continued growth. Parents and caregivers are included in all stages of our programming, including goal selection, program implementation, and progress assessment.

BISLA staff act as facilitators, providing behavioral support to ensure meaningful social interactions, and access to the academic curriculum.
